July/August Update

Still doing really well, feeling great.

Weight still the same around 68kgs. This seems to be the weight my body is most comfortable at and unless I have a tummy tuck (which I am told would take about 5ks off my weight) is the weight I should remain at, all things being equal.

I am continueing to be a guest speaker at my surgeons seminars, although this is looking at coming to an end as they are looking at developing a bigger online site with a short documentary about to be shot. I have been asked to be part of that doco.

Will post site address once it has been established.

June update

Still doing well. My weight is stagnant around 68kgs, sometime up a little and sometimes down around 65kgs.

I have had to increase the amount of meat I eat as my iron levels fell and doctor wants them up a bit, I was eating a lot of chicken and apparently chicken doesn't have a lot of iron in it. I try to eat red meat 3 or 4 times a week.

Have also changed my multi vitamin tablets to Swiss Women's formula, and feel a little more energized with them.

Meals: Normal Day

Breakfast
1/3 cup of rolled oats
White skim milk coffee - half hour after eating

Lunch
small tin of Salmon with Sun dried Tomato & Onion
2 Crisp breads

Dinner
small piece of fillet steak
Gravy eg mushroom, Diane

March 2011 update

Just back from cruise around New Zealand. Had a fantastic time. New swimmers didn't get a workout as weather was not that good.

The attached photo was taken on board the ship. (Photographer must have had a really good lens filter on his camera, as there is not a wrinkle in sight.)

People we shared a table with at dinner were amazed that I ate so little. I had to explain that I had had a gastric bypass. They were very interested and amazed that I had lost over 50kgs.

On the ship they had a lot of alternate places to eat. Food was available 24 hours a day. A big persons dream. Fortuately, my relationship with food has changed and I only ate small meals regularly. My travelling companions, stuffed themselves silly (they are average size people), then worried about how they were going to fit into their cloths.

I lost 300gs on the cruise, last cruise I went on (5 years ago) I gained nearly a stone. How life has changed for the better.

February Update

All still going well. I have put on 2kgs since Christmas, dietitian told me this would happen at around the 18 month mark. It is due to your body going into storage mode, apparently it will drop off again shortly.

I am heading off on a cruise around New Zealand shortly, had to get new swimmers as the ones I had were too big. Yah.

Lets hope so.

December Update

Not much to report, all going well. I am at the 18 month mark since the operations.

Weight is currently between 65 & 66kgs, feeling great. Still think it was the best thing to do.

Have run into several friends lately that had not seen me for a few years and they were gobsmaked to see this smaller me.

One asked if I had been sick to have lost so much weight. I have only been asked this twice in the last 18 months.

Most people ask how I have done it. I am happy to explain and tell them about the gastric bypass.

August Update

I haven't blogged for a while as there was nothing much to report. Weight is stable at 66kgs.

I recently had to have a laproscopic investigation as I had a severe bout of reflux with sever pain, this was the first episode since the operation. Doctor wanted to investigate to make sure that nothing was wrong. Apparently the intestines can loop around each other and cause pain and reflux.

They didn't find anything wrong, which is good. The reflux might have been caused by something I ate before going to bed ( I did have a couple of chocolate covered peanuts just prior to going to bed). As I haven't had another episode since, they think this might have been the cause.

I have been to a plastic surgeon re having a tummy tuck. Was actually booked in for the 30th August but have had to postpone that until I heal from the laproscope. I am having second thoughts about having it, as I am experiencing a lot of discomfort from this operation. Tummy tuck will be 10 time more painful, not sure I want to go there.
